Oculus Quest or Oculus Pro?

The Oculus Quest 2 and the Oculus Pro are both VR headsets developed by Oculus, a company that is now owned by Facebook. Both headsets offer high-quality virtual reality experiences, but they have some notable differences that may make one a better fit for your needs than the other. In this article, we will compare the Oculus Quest 2 and the Oculus Pro to help you decide which one is right for you.

One of the main differences between the Oculus Quest 2 and the Oculus Pro is their design. The Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone headset, which means it does not require a computer or console to operate. This makes it a convenient option for users who want to experience VR on the go. On the other hand, the Oculus Pro is a PC-based headset, which means it requires a powerful computer to run. This makes it a more suitable option for users who are interested in high-end gaming or other resource-intensive VR experiences.

Another key difference between the Oculus Quest 2 and the Oculus Pro is their display and graphics. The Oculus Quest 2 has a resolution of 1832 x 1920 per eye, which is lower than the Oculus Pro's resolution of 2160 x 2160 per eye. Additionally, the Oculus Pro has a higher refresh rate of 90 Hz, compared to the Oculus Quest 2's refresh rate of 72 Hz. This means that the Oculus Pro may offer a slightly smoother and more detailed VR experience than the Oculus Quest 2.

The Oculus Quest 2 and the Oculus Pro also have different storage options. The Oculus Quest 2 is available in two storage sizes, 64 GB and 256 GB, while the Oculus Pro is only available in a single storage size of 512 GB. This means that the Oculus Pro may be a better option for users who need more storage space for their VR experiences.

In terms of price, the Oculus Quest 2 is generally more affordable than the Oculus Pro. The 64 GB model of the Oculus Quest 2 is currently priced at $299, while the 256 GB model is priced at $399. The Oculus Pro, on the other hand, is priced at $799. This makes the Oculus Quest 2 a more budget-friendly option for users who are interested in VR but don't want to spend a lot of money.

So, which VR headset is right for you? If you are looking for a convenient, standalone VR headset that is suitable for casual VR experiences, the Oculus Quest 2 may be the better option. However, if you are interested in high-end gaming or other resource-intensive VR experiences, the Oculus Pro may be a better fit due to its higher resolution, refresh rate, and storage capacity. Ultimately, the decision will depend on your specific needs and budget, but for our money we believe the Oculus Quest 2 is the best bang for your buck.

  1. Agreed, I chose the Quest2 - just couldnt justify the additional cost of the Pro at the moment. Maybe next year when the price comes down? For now the Quest 2 does everything I want.
